I have the honor to report that, by Special Order No. 516 (Ext 5) of Dec 10th 1867 from Head Quarters of the Army I am mustered out of service to take effect Jany 1st 1868. 

In order to enable me to continue my duties, as Superintendent of Education, after that date, without transfer of property, I must respectfully invite your attention to your endorsement upon my application for the appointment of State Superintendent of Education & request that the same may be forwarded in time for me to accept, & file the proper oath of office by the 1st proximo.
