The first successful 
iron works in the 
country established 
here  Foundry erected 1643
Joseph Jenks built a 
forge here in 1647, and 
in 1652 made the dies 
for the first silver money 
coined in New England in 
1654, he made the first 
fire engine in America

Nutting House 1636 ? being 
restored & to be furnished & 
shown. Beams over fire 
place bored through with 
augur. Old tea chest pulled 
up from ocean  5 ft long 
boring with iron straps set 
with rosettes  old lock with 
trefoil openwork carving on 
feet looked like Tudor 
roses.

Iron works moved away 
because owners did not get on
