Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands,
CLAIM DIVISION

Baltimore, Md., July 29th 1869.

Bt. Major Genl. O. O. Howard
Comr. Bu. R. F. & A. L.
Washington D.C.

Sir.

Wm Deshon late Pvt. Co "I" 9th U.S.C.T has this day called to make inquiry with regard to his State of Md. Bounty. Said claim, amt'g to $300.00, has here collected by H. L. Bond in whose hands the amount is now held. In order that claimed should receive his money it will be necessary for me to certify to his identity. As Judge Bond will pay him but $260.28 instead of $280.28, justly due, in accordance with agreement made with the Bureau. I have the honor to inquire whether I shall recognize the judge's deduction, by giving claimant the certificate of identity. Claimant lives in Delaware, and is desirous of settling his claim while in the city. I would add in conclusion that Judge Bond has not complied with Genl. Howard's instructions to turn over the funds to me, neither has he paid any attention to my requests for his decision in the matter.
