Jessee Boyer entered the service in Co "B" 41st Penn (Colored) served until Jan 1865 when he died at David's Island N.Y. Harbor,- information of his death first received by widow (Margaret Boyer) through letter read to her by Milton G. Erner, attorney at Frederick, which letter was written by Rev Mr Nichols Paster of Star Church Balto. at dictation of one Nicholas Smith (colored) who was with deceased at time of death, which letter stated that "Jessee Boyer died at David's Island N.Y. Harbor,- Col Nichols in Charge of Port, Doctor Webster in charge of Hospital - a check book in the hands of Nicholas Smith at Philip's Switch Annapolis R.R. - one hundred and sixty dollars due the father. Mr. Stansbury of that place (Philip's Switch) could give information of Nicholas Smith. Henry Fletcher of Frederick, knew something of the father of the said Boyer" After reading the letter he (Erner) gave the letter to Margaret Boyer, who took it to her (white) friends who could do nothing. She went down town (Frederick) and then met a colored man (Geo. Grim) who asked her concerning her husband, and whether she had ever got his money. She told him "no." he then informed her that he could take her to a man who could collect it for her, or if he did'nt no charge would be made
