Baltimore, Md
March. 17. 1868
No 12 North Calvert Street
Freedmens Bureau

Hon. W. Elliott
Chairman Freedmens Affairs
Sir
I wish to make, calmly, and respectfully the simple statement that on the fifteenth of this month I was summarily dismissed from my position as Clerk in the Bureau in this City, for exposing and reporting what any unbiased man would pronounce wrong doings.
I was earnestly and conceintiously labored to do all that seemed possible to benefit the colored people, and in so doing it has become my manifest duty to report charges against the persons in this Office, which too, are unfortunately favorites of Genl Howard and he has dismissed me, for doing what, I could not help doing, as an honest man, and retained those who have done the wrong. I do not charge Genl Howard with any [[underlined]] intention [[/underlined]]
