General

I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of letters recommendatory, and am much obliged for same.

I would respectfully ask why my appointment in the Bureau was revoked.  I do not wish to ask anything unauthorized, but as I really expected the most cordial co-operation of Genl Howard in my endeavors to do right and protect the interests of the Freedmen, I cannot but believe that he is acting under a misapprehension 

I have already forwarded my solemn affidavit that I have done my best and I can furnish numerous statements of those whome I have by my own efforts bennefitted.  Surely you will not ignore the honest endeavors of an individual, who is willing to face any scrutiny, and invites any criticism, I earnestly ask that I may receive some
