I have the honor to ask whether I may look for a reinstatement in the Bureau? I have all along supposed that when the result of General Brook's investigation was forwarded to your Head Qrs. I would be re-instated. I hoped I have not been mistaken. I am unemployed, and have been so long identified with the Bureau here that I cannot hope to obtain employment in Rebel Baltimore. I hope that the numerous testimonials of [[crossed out]] respt [[/crossed out]] respected parties would have inclined you to believe my statements. I hope Genl Gregory has not been the means of prejudicing [[crossed out]] me [[/crossed out]] you, for you will never believe as others do. that Genl. Gregory is capable of such meanness and perfidy as I once little suspected. You would be astonished beyond all measure if I should descend to retailing his dishonorable allegations.
