and I repeat that if you receive the bare ascertions of this man, when placed in juxtaposition with such letters a Dodge's Prices, and Von Schivachs and the sworn statements of myself and others together with the reports of good men, then I indeed despair of vindication.  There is no man in the Bureau, against whom more [[strikethrough]] swinding [[/strikethrough]] swindling is openly charged than this very Wright.  I brought no such charges, because I could not prove them, and I never make charges I cannot prove, but Capt Wright is charged by others with all manner of things, and it is the general impression here that he cleared out to escape prosecution.  I do not make the charges myself for the reason given, but I do state that I have heard him grosely and outrageously insult old grey headmen colored people, and compel them to disclose the most private family affairs before he would pay them the Bounty due them, I have heard him tell women who plead large families as a reason for wanting their money that- "they had no business to have so many children" and shock the sensibilities of the office by laughing at and ridiculing the most sensitive feelings exhibited by the poor Freedmen.  This is the kind of man sent here to elevate the colored people, who invariably left the office muttering curses upon [[strikethrough]] this man,  [[/strikethrough]] his head - All this can be amply proved, and more than once it was threatened by clerks in the office to report such outrages, but being son-in-law to Genl Gregory protected him in every species of outrage, and this is the man who dares to concoct the most infamous lies against me.  I only wish I could
