Shall try and close up Smith Jones & Co to morrow. Your claim against Waco Manufacturing Company I consider very dubious unless the Government release their claim or allow the property to be sold for what it will bring without their bidding it up to the amt of $3.000.00 which amt they agreed to take. I am fully satisfied that their claim is an unjust one & should be abandoned, or if persisted in to sell the property O. O. Howard should instruct Genl Reynolds not to bid upon it, but allow it to be sold for a small price without any interference on the part of the Government. It really seemed too bad to make such a sacrifice and put a stop to the manufacturing of yarns, when in fact the Government would receive more money, by way of revenue inside of twelve months than the $3.000. I deem it therefore important that you make one more effort to get Genl Howard to abandon the Government claim altogether and solely for the reasons above stated.
