and would respectfully state that the circumstances and facts as regards the shooting are as follows.

Lieuts Nye, Williams and Myself were out in the rear of our Quarters firing at a target with Lieut Williams pistol
On returning and entering Mr Nye's Quarters, Lieut Williams remarked that he could knock the eyes out of the lady on the wall (alluding to the picture mentioned) Lieut Nye said "all right crack away" Mr Williams fired passing the ball through the picture, Mr Nye and your humble servant also discharged our pistol in the room and I have no hesitation in pronouncing the person who reported Lieut Williams as being drunk on that occasion as a malicious medlesome knave.

I will close by saying that Lieut Williams denied with myself and Lady at 2 O'Clock and leaving on the three o'clock train same day and am positive as to him being duly sober.
