1867, during all of that time Mr Long was active and attentive to his duties and was sober and steady in habits I could have wished no better Assistant.
What his conduct was from the state of his taking charge of the Office (November 28th 1867) until the 17th of February 1868 I do not know except from hearsay, On the day last mentioned I went to Brookhaven Miss, under orders from Head quarters Sub Dist of Miss and came from that place on the 21st of February during all of tis last time I did not see Mr Long intoxicated and he appeared attentive as usual to his duties in the Office, and speaking to me of the Schools I thought him especially interested.
In his general conduct Mr Long may not be as dignified as he should be in his position, but I am of the opinion that he desires to do his duty.

  I am Lieutenant
Very Respectfully
