   I have the honor to submit the following report as the result of my investigation of affairs at Lauderdale, Miss. in compliance with instructions from Hd Qrs Dist of Miss. March 1st 1867.
   I find at present that The Asylum contains about 100 orphan children of both sexes, principally under ten years of age: They are well fed and clothed; the buildings occupied are large, comfortable, and in a creditable state of cleanliness.  The large majority of  the children are being instructed.  The teachers being furnished by the same Society that have charge of the Institution.
   At the Hospital (Act. Asst. Surg. H. H. Penniman in charge.)  I found 85 patients, a large proportion of
