of Mr. Huggins to the Gilmor place, was  to investigate a difficulty which had occurred between some of the hands on the place.  It appears at that time, Mr. G. was in the habit of furnishing his men with a quart of whiskey every Saturday night, and as a natural consequence some of them would be troublesome.  The difficulty referred to, was as follows: A row occurred at night among the hands, in which one man was severely stabbed, another amused himself by beating his wife.  Mr. G. hearing the disturbance, went down to the quarters and punished the man who caused the stabbing. The affair was examined by a Magistrate, who bound the man
