In regard to the overseer carrying a pistol in the field, the negroes state that they never thought any thing of it until Mr. Huggins mentioned it, and they told him that he had never used it for the purpose of intimidating them. Mr. L. told the overseer, Mr Whittaker that he had no right to carry it, and informed the freedmen that if he continued to carry it, they had an equal right to carry arms to the field, and I have reason to believe that his manner towards the overseer was very overbearing & improper.
