been so much delay in getting evidence - I think it best to forward the papers as they are, lest it might be supposed the subject is not receiving proper attention - The reports of Mr. Hildreth and Maj. Bolenius are to be received with caution as they are antagonistical and possibly tinctured with bitterness on account of their relative positions, the one having been superseded by the other.  The report on the charges preferred by Mr. Hildreth will be duly forwarded as soon as possible.  It seems to me that is Mr. Hildreth was concious of the continued loss of the discharges, and had any reason to doubt the security of the office, he might have taken some means to otherwise protect himself from censure, even if an indifference was manifested on the part of Genl Gregory.
