General:
Although personally unknown to you, I take the liberty of addressing you upon a subject of much interest to me and the loyal citizens white and black of my County, and necessarily of Concern to you. 
Rev. J. L. Roberts, now of your city, but late an agent of the Bureau for This (Kemper) County, writes me that he has resigned and will not return to Mississippi.
I Know not the causes which have induced this action upon the part of the Mr. R, nor do I care here to inquire what they may be. But Sir, I do desire to enter my most earnest protest against the acceptance of this resignation; and I feel Sir that I am but echoing the combined and universal Sentiment of all the colored people and every loyal white citizen in the county, when I do so.
