The number of pupils who have received instruction in these schools is about fourteen thousand (14,000), three thousand (3.000) of whom were adults instructed in night schools.- Sixty (60) Sabbath Schools with an aggregate of over fourteen thousand (14,000) pupils have also been in operation.- Through the instrumentality of the teachers thirty (30) temperance societies have already been organized and measures are being taken to encourage a more general establishment of this work.

The amount of expenses incurred by this department in appropriations for rents of school buildings for the months of January and February is three thousand five hundred dollars ($3,500). For the month of March it is impossible to report definitely on account of not having received full reports from all the schools throughout the State;- the total expense for rents will not however vary far from four thousand five hundred
