Very few complaints of outrages against freemen have been received during the quarter. The whites have shown a very commendable spirit of forbearance toward the freedmen considering the great number of depredations upon stock and thefts of meat and breadstuffs consequent upon their failure to realize sufficient from their labor to support them through the year.- Comparatively few have been proceeded against by criminal process and but few cases of violence have come to the knowledge of the Assistant Commissioner one of which is of such an aggravated nature as has hardly been equalled since the close of the war.
