Dear Dan Flavin,

Your material arrived in good shape this morning. Much I ponder your careful instructions. I think they can all be followed accurately, but would like to make a caveat now regarding reproductions. One of the ways we manage to survive is to use [[strikethrough]] xxx [[/strikethrough]] cheap printers and drive them like slaves. When things go right, press time finds me perched on the top of the big two-color, watching each sheet come off, howling when the ink gets too black or hickeys show up, etc. But cheap printing is cheap printing and there are limits to how far you can push uninspired union pressmen, who know very well [[strikethrough]] xx [[/strikethrough]] when you have crossed the border from simple supervision to custom demands. Most of the time things come out OK, but we dont usually have the kind of control that can make the best of all half-tones. Nevertheless, I will do do everything I can.

Another thing working in our favor is that Ed Ruscha is currently doing our layout and production, and he is a whip at getting the most out of phot, even if he has to paint out the whole thing to do it.

I'm planning the piece [[strikethrough]] xxxx [[/strikethrough]] for the December issue. Do any color separations of your work exist, and, if so, could we get the separations, and, if so, would you like to do that?
