Dear Dan,

Thanks for your letter; horrid that your staff should be wasted on Art In America, but the news about "some other remarks..." cheers me up. I'm delighted. My opinion about what you have written? I'm asking for more! But, if you must have something more than what I'd hoped my enthusiasm had already conveyed, it is that, for reasons I cant formulate, there is something in your prose which manages to convey, to me, more of a sense of what it is like to be an artist nowadays than anything else I know of. I fear to say more for the danger of perhaps making you [[strikethrough]] conscious [[/strikethrough]] to conscious of certain things in your writing.

Right off the name Joan Rosen didn't ring a bell, but the description evoked lots of great, luscious Jewish tough girls at Brooklyn College -- the furthest conceiveable contrasts from all the "Hi Kathy, haar-yew's" I met on Midwestern campuses.

Thanks for inviting us to Valhalla - fact is, my wife and children are [[strikethrough]] sty [[/strikethrough]] staying in a place that must not [[strikethrough]] fa [[/strikethrough]] be far from you. It's near a town called Hopewell Junction. Perhaps one weekend when I go up to see them we can drop by.

Regards to Sonja,
