Besides continuing my investigation of fluorescent light for situational "sculpture", I would like to attempt to study a more advanced technological sense of artificial light with expert advice. I would like to be able to consult engineers or those others who could have additional information for me.

Between 1961 and 1963, I developed a simple "sculpture" of enclosed space which had to be used to be completely effective. It concerned doors and corridors. I drew up eight definite alternatives. Because this project required substantial financing for realization, I have never been able to build from my diagrams. I would especially apply myself to completing this work, too, should your Fellowship be offered.

Also, I have been to formulate an attempt to help revise formal educational [[strikethrough]] proceedings [[/strikethrough]] procedure for artists. My first paper will be published in the February, 1968 issue of Artforum, after trial readings at the Pennsylvania State University (August 4, 1967), The Corcoran Museum School (January 11, 1968) and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (January 18, 1968). A book be implied during the year of the Fellowship.

To accomplish what I have projected, I would have to forego a regular teaching assignment. Becoming a Guggenheim Fellow would release me from that necessity.

Dear Phil,
This is the "Guggie" propositioning. I hope that it reads like a winner. I would use some financial relief at last. Last week, Sal Le Witt was surprised by a recitation of our continuing plight. And I am depressed at hearing it again.

Best regards,
Flav.
