Dear Phil,
Sonja and I have reread your letter of January Eighteenth. It convinces me that the "credibility gap" between artists and critics is "vast", and I am not the artist who could care to dispel it. Further, to reply fully would mean that I would have to submit to several assumptions more worthy of an Un-American Activities Subcommittee than an editor which, as you realize well enough, is what I had hoped that you were. If, after all that you have published of my tasteful, purposeful and open vituperation, you can find me hypocritical; then you have been a foolish editor indeed. Frankly, I have had to write these comments despite the fact that I appreciate that you have explained certain misunderstandings and offered apologies about the content of parts of my letter and your reply.

I have been informed that I will be chagrined by your response to my "von Helsing letter" in the current Artforum. Please mail the commentary to me.
