Dear Philip,
I have reread your letter of May Sixteenth and despite our telephone talk, I have determined to answer by mail - with some other comments, too.
I cannot agree or disagree about your particular displeasure with Volume Six of Artforum (Remember I [[scan?]] more than they read)but I would concur with an opinion that had it that the move of the magazine to New York was mistaken. I recall that I admonished you against such an alteration when in Los Angeles in December, 1966.  But I suppose that the decision was more yours to agree with them to determine.  Anyway, enough! - it is so no editor, no one could stock a monthly contemporary art publication with sufficiently worthwhile material as you are expected to perform continually. (Also, you ought not try to account for what's not happening with art.) Have you considered publishing less regularly or better, irregularly as enough engaging material has accumulated? Also, you do not make use of the photographic report of art or make enough attempts at other wordless approaches to the visible arts, etc. For myself I understand that I have contributed exceedingly personal literature on art particularly my own and much definite service journalism especially for colleagues. I do not believe that I could improve upon my basic procedures. Frankly I could if I would write on art, but that has not been possible and is yet impossible. But I
