Phil, Phil,
If you can finally express such a sentiment about manliness, how is it that you cannot comprehend the embarrassing position which your editorializing has fashioned for me? My extreme request is about the only alternative which I can sense is available to me. After all that you have published between us, I calculate that what I seek may actually have become a least "indignity." God damn it all, how could you anticipate that favorable comments from you publishing about "cool white, etc" would entice me to imagine that our disagreement about your editorializing, etc. would become abrogated forthwith toward my writing for Artforum once again! Certainly, I have appreciated and do recognize your invitation to submit copy but, of course, I cannot regard the current context.
I will write for the Japanese with the sauce non-professional reluctance which has always plagued me about publications. I don't believe in my ability to write nor in the expressable opinions necessary to sustain the capacity. When I can engender a sense of cause in fun, I am free to write. The specific, occasional letter seems to be my most appropriate means for literate release. And then, I am obliged to concentrate upon the art which I only know. Enough.
