...That's true. That's very true, Ruth. But I say, I pass the judgment in that studio. So it hasn't met my approval yet, but I think possibly Ben Horowitz has been on me...he's such a magnificent dealer...and when he gets onto you about something,man, he don't let go. So he's making me assure him that I'm going to have some paintings in my next show which will be in November.
...Well, there's a lot of questions there, and they can be answered simply. I spoke Spanish miserably. What little I spoke it was miserable, which didn't deter me from anything, of either enjoyment or getting out of the country what I had to get out of it. In fact, I lived in the Indian village for about six months, a little place called Cloutlet, about forty miles from Porta Banca. The Indian village was in the mountains, and a few of the people spoke Spanish. They spoke various Indian dialects. And I got along fine there. I got me a burro, and I became a sort of sight to behold around this little village riding the burro, and being a Negro. But you know I managed, and I found...somehow I always found...this was the same in Europe...I found no matter what countries I was in, I'd manage somehow to get a lot of this thing and give certain amounts.
