My Vestal Love

My vestal love, the one eternal light-
Who watchest that dim flame within my soul,
Forever fading yet forever bright-
That it die not, though wildest tempests roll;-
Too quick would passion burn the lamp of life,
While the soft moon-light melts into my room-
if thy sweet peace did not rebuke the strife
That hastens my swift brief thought to its bong tomb.

While thou dost watch, I lose the world in dream-
My room becomes [[strikethrough]]the[[/strikethrough]]a poet's fairy land-
And in the midnight's soothing sounds I seem,
To wander on, [[strikethrough]]holding[[/strikethorugh]] [[holding?]] thy spirit hand.
Guard me, oh vestal love, and make me strong-
To cast away the things that do thee wrong
