Dear Lucy,

A handful of the latest 'Aphra' magazines were delivered to me today. with a couple of my paintings reproduced. I thank you for recommending me to the editors.

Since you recommended me to them, I thought you might like to hear the story of all this. They told me my work would be reproduced. One of the associate editors said there would be 3 of Susan Hall, 2 of mine, and one of Louise Bourgeois. Talking to her, I realized (same as with the others at Aphra) they knew little about art or artists or how artists expect to be treated. In a long discussion I tried to point out that they should increase Louise's representation, she is an important American artist, she has been around a long time and she would probably resent their action. The assoc. editor said she would tell this to Eliz Fisher.

Anyway some days later another of the assoc. editors showed up with the proofs. (the Artaud quote needed enlarging) They seemed to have gotten the message, there were three of Louise's. But then I saw how they showed me... One detail (fine) and an Artaud [[strikethrough]] 3? [[/strikethrough]] 3/4 page like it was illustrating a story.. and besides separated from the first. They were reducing my work by lack of professionalism. And they were still naive. When I called Eliz. Fisher asserted her perogative (who's challenging that!) as editor in choosing and composing the layout, and that she was besieged by women artist to be included in 'Aphra'. A chauvanistic turn of events..

As I haven't seen you the last couple of meetings I assume you are on vacation. If you Haven't received a copy of 'Aphra', just drop me a card and I'll send one to you.
Love,
Nancy
