NIGERIA
4 724 - Gelede Masquerade

July 29

Dear Lucy and Charles,

Nigeria is fantastically progresave. There is art here from 12th-14th century,- 1 BC. that we never see in the states Incredibly beautiful stuff. No photo does it justice. Nigeria is the great progressive country in terms of the amount of controll they have over their own industries. This is truly Africa for the African, Kenya is more Africa for the colonial... but it is all very [[?]]. I should not
get into these matters too deeply on a postcard. Spectacular flight over central Africa during incredible thunderstorm. This is the rainy season. We flew above angry storm clouds filled with bolts of lightning. Arrived over Nigeria and could see huge fires in the center of the villages. Will not photograph Nigeria as do not want to get into trouble. It is a military government.
