Statement

Howardena Pindell
Video Drawings

The Video Drawing Series has been executed over the past three years on themes of sports, science fiction, etc.,using commercial T.V. (Sony-19" color) and a Pentax reflex camera with a 55 mm lense on a tripod. Pen and ink drawings on acetate, which are held on to the TV screen by static electricity, are photographed using color print film.

The prints are made by a Kodak computor process thus enabling each print in the edition of 10 per image to be cropped in a different way depending on how the machine has been set by the computor. Full negative prints are requested. The full edition is printed print-by-print on separate days to allow for computor error.

The numbers and arrows mean nothing in terms of the measurement of space, or in terms of vectors, however their placement relative to the image on the TV screen points to the lines and areas of force and energy, real and imagined.
