8th Street would be ideal but the 20's would also be good. I'm seeing a lot - not particularly art things but just the environment and the slowness and the color. Tried to get into some of the temples but they do not allow non-Hindus which is a bit of a disgrace because the temple tours are sponsored by the government. You pay your fee and get to the door & they make the non Hindus wait outside which is a bit ridiculous because non-Hindu is based on whether or not you look Indian or not. All Indians are not Hindu... Last time (8 years ago) it was not quite that rigid. The Shiva temples this time were less rigid than the Vishnu temples but in both cases the priests come out and hassle you for money - apparently not for the temple but for their own pockets! So it is quite an adventure. Am with Cookie now in the lap of luxury as her husband is a movie actor/director- luxury in comparison to before- Had my first hot bath since N.Y. last night plus the food is clean so I'm not battling with the trots. Her appartment is on the Arabian Sea so it is cool & bright. The poverty just a mile from here would make your hair drop out. Let me know how you are when you have time. I'm here until April 1.
