Dear Miss Miller:
I hope that you will recall our several conversations regarding my Arshile Gorky catalogue raisonné and your beautiful Gorky oil painting. My book is going to press--with the New York University Press-- in a matter of days and I would like to ask your permission on the following.

In the course of work for the upcoming Newark exhibition of Gorky murals (for which I am writing one of the catalogue essays) Ruth Bowman has put in my hands three photographs of murals in situ, which I understand come from your files. These fill in important gaps in the record of how Gorky's murals looked, and I would like very much to be able to reproduce these photographs in my catalogue raisonné. with every appropriate credit to you.

I hope that you will permit me to publish these photos, and I want to thank you for all of your interest and cooperation in my work on Gorky. Your kind interest is most sincerely appreciated. With best regards,

Yours truly,

Jim M. Jordan
