Cobalt violet nor the cadmiums will stand contact with iron. So do not use steel palette knife. I make them of thin strips of cedar shaved down and dipped in clear lacquer. For black I use Le Franc's Peach Black. unless I am broke, then grind Fezandie's Vine black.
