Dear Elizabeth McCausland,

I have no idea that this will ever reach you for I suppose you have long since left Springfield. The immediate occasion for this note is that I recently discovered your introduction to [[?]] Kollwitz folio (Curt Valentin) and have to tell you what a simply well job I think it is. I don't know how I missed her back in N.Y. Perhaps we all have to get out for a while to sort out what we are really after. But I am grateful for your penetrating comments too. 

Siegfried Weng at the Dayton Art Institute, where I am having a show now - mostly wood carving - suggested her influence on me. And since I had never seen her work, [[strikethrough]] it [[/strikethrough]] I was interested. It is wonderful to stumble on pure gold so late in life. I wanted to shout from the house tops:  "there - That's how it is - that's what I've been trying to say". I only hope that by the time I am seventy, I will
