Dearest Mummy:

Glad you had a nice birthday party and sorry I couldn't be there too. Better luck next time, perhaps. If you'll come to see me, I'll make some lovely icecream in the Frigidaire and some brownies in my stove. I made my first try at the latter Thursday night and they came out very well indeed.

I have been busy as usual, doing nothing much. My book censorship articles were well received and they may be reprinted by a group of Boston booksellers who want to circulate them widely. Next week I am going to Boston to hear Myra Hess play; also I may get a story there. Tomorrow I expect to go up to South Hadley to see Jeannette Marks.

Oh yes, Madeline is planning to go abroad the end of March. Pretty soon The Republican will be manned by much-traveled people, not that it will do them any good. This place needs to be dynamited, when it comes to salaries.
