Dearest Mummy: You are a darling to give me the money for the apartment and I certainly appreciate it. I think I'll use the money you sent me for Christmas to get me a Turkish coffee set, and use some of this for my mattress and rug, already gotten but not paid for. Then from time to time as I think of things I can get them. At present I have everything that I'll need immediately, thanks to Aunty Mary; and I'll take my time about getting other things, so they'll be what I want. Today I went down and bought a curtain rod, a dust mop, a wet mop, a pail, a brush for the toilet, a brush for the bathtub, some silver polish, a cover for the ironing board, built in, and cleaner for the toilet. I feel so domestic. Aunt Mary gave me a lot of groceries, flour, sugar, canned things, maple syrup from her sister's farm in Maine, and so on. Tomorrow I'm going to try to make some mousse.

Also tomorrow I am having a tea party for all my lady friends. Shall have toasted scones, little cakes which Ruth Davis made for me, peanuts and chocolate peppermints. I only have five chairs and have invited about a dozen people, but some of them can sit in the bathtub. I wonder if some day you could find a minute to make some curtains of theatrical gauze if I got the stuff and sent it to you, with the measurements. I'm not going to have any in the bathroom or kitchen because the windows are frosted and up so high no one could look in, and curtains are just one thing more to look after. Last night I toiled scrubbing the kitchen floor. I won't need a gym class if this keeps up.

My bed is very comfortable. The apartment is well heated and there's lots of hot water. The living room gets quite a lot of sun, and the whole place is very light, being painted light cream. You know, plaster walls, paneled and painted. The floor of the main room is hardwood, waxed, the kitchen linoleum, and the bath tile. The tub sets down on the floor and is built up to the walls. There is a shower, and all the fixtures are very nice. As I told you there is an electric dish dasher, which I haven't tried yet, the Frigidaire, and the gas stove. I have gotten my bfeakfasts for three or four days now and it's no more work than going out and a lot cheaper. I have a phone in now, have milk left every morning, and everything is lovely. I got a linen rug, neutral colors, heather shade they called it, which looks well.
