Dear Keith and Edna:

I received your kind letter and was delighted to know that you are so comfortably settled for the summer. I have been in Maine two summers and have never forgotten the rugged virile character of that country. The inherent strengths of the rocks on the shores, and the threatening dark crevices with gussling forming water eternally dashing against the immovable forbidding rocks is something one cannot forget. It leaves one inspired with fright - awe! (surrealist expressions)

I was so deeply touched by your discription of the (foundling) terrier. I love dogs, I understand them, and I can see those appealing unctious eyes - craving for affection and a home. And he was fortunate indeed to be found by you. He is a symbol - a good omen - And a friend.
