Mansion House
Brooklyn - 7" October 1844.

Sir,

Accident some time ago, made me acquainted with the fact of two busts of John Paul-Jones hung in possession of the Natural Academy of Design.

As the [[nearest]] male heir (grand nephew) of the Commodore, I have been, and am still, most desirous to obtain one of these Busts - if not inconsistent with the [[agitations]] of the Academy not one of them being possessed by the heirs. I respectfully propose, therefore to make such reasonable remuneration for the privilege of obtaining one of those [[?]] to, as you shall think right, apart from the [[?]] of its relinquishment, by the Academy, which would, at all times be felt as it [[?]].

I take the liberty to refer you, for my identity, to Geo A Wards Esq. a member of the New York Historical Society or to Miss Dekham & Moore, of this city, [[?]]ing, with Consideration
Sir
Very obediently Yours
Geo L. Lowden Esq

To
Samuel F.B. Morse Esq.
Pres of the National Academy of Design
142 Nap[[ar?]] Street
New York.
