Miss Clara Morse, granddaughter of telegraph inventor

Miss Clara Morse, 86, former longtime resident of 153 South St., and granddaughter of Samuel F. B. Morse, inventor of the telegraph, died last night at the Curtis Manor Nursing Home in Dalton, following a short illness. 

The daughter of Edward L. and Charlotte D. Morse, she was born in Germany while her father was there studying art.  She lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., for a time until moving to Pittsfield about 1912.

On the 50th anniversary of her grandfather's death, Miss Morse had an exhibition at the Berkshire Museum of a portrait of an old man painted by her grandfather, who was an artist before he was an inventor. In 1971 Miss Morse presented the painting to the Berkshire Museum.

She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. There are no immediate survivors.

Funeral services will be Friday morning at 11 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Andrew F. Wissermann, rector, officiating. Following cremation, burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, N.Y.

COLEBROOK, Conn. — Harry W. Riggers, 76, of Beech Hill Road here, former owner of the Flying  Cloud  Inn in New Marlborough, Mass., died Sunday at the Drummond Convalescent Home in Torrington where he had been living for about three months.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., July 9, 1899. He moved to New Marlborough, where he established the Flying Cloud Inn, in 1946 and operated it until he sold the establishment in 1969 when he moved to Colebrook.

Mr. Rittgers served as a lieutenant commander in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the Colebrook Congregational Church.

He leaves his wife, the former Louise Elting of Colebrook, a daughter Carol Rittgers of California, three brothers, Barton Rittgers of Maxwell, Iowa, and [[??]]

Charles Seiger Sr., father of police chief in Egremont

GREAT BARRINGTON — Charles M. Seiger Sr., 83, father of Egremont  Police  Chief Charles M. Seiger Jr., died this morning at his home at 160 Castle Hill Ave.

Mr. Seiger was born Oct. 10, 1892 in Saxony, Germany, the son of Englebert Frederick and Theresa Thalman Seiger.

Mr. Seiger came to this country in 1911 and worked as a master baker in Flushing, N.Y. for 25 years before moving to Great Barrington in 1949.

Mr. Seiger and his wife operated the Robinwood Bakery in North Egremont for six years. They also operated the Regina Coeli Nursing Home in Great Barrington for six years.

In later years he was a baker at Dehon Seminary here and at Bellefontaine in Lenox and Jug End Resort in South Egremont. He retired two years ago.

He was communicant of St. Peter's Church and a member of the Mount Everett Council No. 513 Knights of Columbus and  a member of Bishop Conaty Assembly 4th degree Knights of Columbus in Pittsfield.

He leaves his wife the former Elizabeth Beck, three sons  [[??]]

Party held for Eagle carriers

The Berkshire Eagle's annual roller skating party for its carriers was held yesterday at the Broyles Arena. More than 200 carriers and their helpers attended. Door prizes awarded were:
