From the official records at the Military Hdqrs. and the Office of the Governor I obtained the following reports of murders, and murderous assaults for the month of March.

Freedmen murdered  21.
White men murdered  15
Freedmen assaulted with intent to kill  11
White men assaulted with intent to kill  7

I have an extract of the reports to verify this. But few if any of the criminals in the above case have been arrested, and if arrested, acquittal by a jury will certainly follow. Gov. Pease informed me that within the last three years, no white man has been punished for murder. Genl. Reynolds has persistently requested the organization of Military Commissions to try such offences, but has not yet
