S287 Bureau Refugees, Freedmen & Abandoned Lands, Assistant Commissioner's Office, State of Kentucky, Lousiville, Ky., June 4th, 1868. Bt Brig Gen'l S. Burbank, U.S.A Assistant Commissioner &c Louisville Ky General: In reply to your endorsement of this date referring to me the communication of Stanage, Saunders & Co of Cincinnati, I have the honor to state, that (I think) in May 1866, I then being Chief Sup'dt B.R.F & A. Lands Memphis Tenn, was authorized by Cap't George Marshall A.Q.M. Bureau R.F. and A. Lands Tennessee, to purchase a certain amount of stationary. This stationary I ordered from Stanage, Saunders & Co. In June 1866, (It will be noticed that their Bill is made to date October 1866, at which time I was not in the Bureau) while on my way to Washington on Leave of Absence. I called at the office of Gen'l John Ely Chief Supr'dt State of Kentucky and there saw a blank School Report which I thought would suit
