S 316 (R., F., & A.L., Vol. 12,) 1868. Charleston June 26, 1868. [[stamp]] The National Archives of the United States [[/stamp]] South Carolina B.M. Gen'l R.K.Scott Asst. Com'r Writes in vindication, of his administration of the Bureau in his State, against the Censure, he is informed, he received in the late inspection report of Col Sewall of affairs in South Carolina. As soon as the Civil Gov't in S.C. is organized & in operation, the Bureau there can bedispensed with, retaining only a few agents to settle up its business. ~ Desires the benefit of the Educational fund as long as it is distributed to freedmen. The stamp is cut off, so there is no date available. But based on comparison to another stamp and what little of the original stamp I can read, it does appear to be a National Archives stamp.
