Dear sir. According to your request, I write you at this time, so you wished me to enquire into the morals & political views, of Capt Pinmgree. I have done so, & have spared no pains to learn the the truth in regard to it find that many evil reports have been circulated, for the sole object of injuring him, I have had some conversation with him. I like him much. Is frank & unassuming in his manners & I should judge a gentleman in his deportment. Has not been known to taste a drop of spirits sin he wrote you about it.

Has sympathized with the rebels to a certain extent, but for a few months past, has been a thorough republican. Same that have had no confidence in him are in full fellowship with
