On monday 26th Oct. a freedman belonging to Mr Ong's plantation, returning from New Orleans with a basket containing $15.00 worth of purchases was attacked on R.R. Track by party of white men robbed of his basket and contents, fired at, seized by one, but broke loose and escaped,-  fleeing to the swamp.

A freedman named Frejus lost all of his clothes, some furniture and a barrel of Pork. He saved his life by voting the Democratic ticket. His brother Overde, lost his saddle and had his household goods despoiled.
