went the following morning early to Lt. M. Blair for signature, let them signed by the Orderlies there on duty and gave notice to the other ones (then not on duty) to come to my house early to sign. They did; I went with them to Gen. M. Ferran's Office and every man has received his pay proper. Have I done wrong in this, I did it for good purpose.

In regard to drinking, Gen:, I was never fond of drinking. I took my glass of wine without even too much, and I challenge anyone who ever saw me "drink". The lady, who kindly offered herself to take this to you, in whose house I stay now 5 years can give you the best information of my habits and character. The whole neighborhood knows me, I don't shun an investigation.

General, let me remain till the Bureau will be broken up, that not a stain can put on my character. I give you my word of honor, that there shall never will a drop of spirit of any kind come over my lips for life time. Don't cast me out midst in the winter, in regard of the services, I have faithfully performed the last three years. To a wounded soldier, in feeble health, who needed the Doctor near to every day, let him not appeal to your kindness in vain. So I hope you will pardon

Your Obedient Servant
