General,

I have the honor to submit the following report of the operations of the Bureau Affairs for the month of January 1869, viz:

The number of "Freedmen" aided by the Bureau during the past month was four hundred and forty eight (448), all inmates of "Howards Grove Hospital" Richmond, Va.

The number of "Schools" in this district during the month was two hundred and seventy eight (278), of which number Thirty one (31) were night schools _ The number of Teachers was Three hundred and twenty three (323) of which one hundred and seventy two (172) were white _ The whole number of Scholars Fourteen thousand and eleven (14011), with an average attendance of Eleven thousand Six hundred and
