Again, here are the Bible and Frost Societies depositories on which I call for aid for Sunday Schools, also the books and funds (for Va.) of the Peabody aid by which I am assisting seventy schools.
Again it has cost a monthes effort, aided by the local Asst. Supts. to get the correspondence and reports of near 300 teachers diverted from the local offices to this. A good deal of confusion would attend a change. I refrain from mentioning other reasons. I desire to save my time and strength for the field, and believe it can best be done here. 
In the matter of a clerk, Mr Spencer's intimate knowledge of all the details of the work of this office would make him invaluable and save me much time for higher duties.
I assure you, General, in these opinions, I am entirely uninfluenced by any personal considerations oar entangling alliances; and only desire those conditions which will help me to make the best success in my work.
