I have the honor to submit the following report of the operations of the Bureau affairs for the month of March 1869, viz: —
The number of "Freedmen" aided by the Bureau during the past month was Three hundred and ninety-three (393) all inmates of "Howards Grove Hospital", Richmond, Va.
The number of "Schools" in this District, during the month was Three hundred and twenty, of which number Forty six (46) were night schools. The number of Teachers was Three hundred and Fifty four (354) of which one hundred and eighty one (181) were white — The whole number of scholars Sixteen thousand Six hundred and thirty six (16636), with an average attendance of Twelve thousand even
