From some remarks I have heard as to the reductions and other changes made in the record of the testimony I called at the office of the Bureau then on Walnut below 3rd, & had much ado to obtain a hearing of my own examination - I was not allowed to read it - Capt Burnett stated he had orders only to read it to me and so he did. I discovered it was now in a different handwriting, from Mr. Hogues, and was shortened and diluted still farther.
The upshot of the enquiry was that the offices of the Bureau were immaculation and that the complainant, and those who had testified at his instance, were either mistaken misinformed prejudiced or malicious and untruthful
Since then James Bruce has died. His decease was largely hastened, if not caused by the wrong done him, and the veseation [[vexation?]] obloquy and annoyance suffered by him in the whole painful business
