and Dr. Boemond, and that we would rest the enquiry on their testimony, - reserving farther witnesses, if needed, to rebut any contrary matter.

To this Major Runkle replied on 13 Aug't., that Dr. Boemond was out of his jurisdiction, but if we would cause him to appear, on or before Augt. 20th, he would examine him.

We have now accordingly the honor to ask that you give such orders or take such measures, as will ensure that the testimony of Dr. Boemond will be laid before you and embodied in the minutes of the investigation.

For your information and satisfaction, we enclose a certified copy of a holograph communication Dr. Boemond forwarded to us - and which he afterwards made oath to.

When Dr. Boemond left here he was under orders from the Surgeon General, to report for duty at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
