My Dear Doctor

I have your kind note as to the conversation between Genl. Ely & Capt Kennedy. 

I am of opinion that the documents reflected on were not my handiwork. Mr. Nelson Thomasson, a Clerk here, some time ago sent out documents irrevelent and signed by him officially, which ultimately came under Genl. Ely's notice. Frequently has his written testimony and official communications, as the letter book will show, been disfigured with defections and interlineations. One of the Officers has frequently remarked on such papers, but the credit being attached to the Officers who signs it, he declined to interfere as his signature did not appear on the paper.

I am satisfied that Genl. Ely gives me discredit for the copying, whereas I have nothing whatever to do with either copying evidence, or forwarding it to Head Qurs. That is a branch conducted by another Clerk. 

The odium of "inability" hurts me greatly especially satisfied as I am that some unhandsomeness
